Of all the known hormones influencing human health, progesterone and estriol appear safest. Even equol from soy metabolism may be problematic, disrupting our hormonal pathways. Cortisol is usually thought to only suppress humoral immunity, and it does have the enol potential in its hydroxy side chain, but cortisol peaking early in the morning may actually liberate (CBG bound) progesterone to increase the monooxygenase so it peaks at mid-day. Thus, naturally produced cortisol may benefit only when produced at the right time of day. Otherwise, such as in the middle of the afternoon, cortisol, or other corticosteroids can disrupt the natural rhythm of our bodies and cause health problems instead of solve them.
