Vitalethine (VSSV) has a molecular weight of about 382, which picks up a proton in the MALDI mass spectrometer with the DHB reagent and UV laser blast to present a mass ion of 383+ in an extremely sensitive LANL instrument. Note that the enzyme appears to stabilize vitalethine and vice versa, whereas pure synthetic vitalethine was unstable in this instrument, especially after exposure to ethanol.
